Editing and Writing Tip: Jr. or comma Jr.?

As we recently noticed when the Purdue University campus celebrated the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., we followed the Associated Press Stylebook for stories, social content, and promotional and marketing materials. According to AP: Abbreviate as Jr. and Sr. and do not precede by a comma: Martin Luther King Jr.

Note: Our Purdue Editorial Style Guide, however, has one exception to this. Our 12th president, mostly on formal printed materials and correspondence, preferred the usage: Mitch Daniels, Jr.
