Look for the tiny chefs
There’s this beloved animated movie about an ambitious rat who, against all odds, becomes a celebrated chef in France … you may have seen it. The movie is remembered fondly for this famous quote: “Anyone can cook!”
Beyond cooking in France, this advice can be applicable to any creative endeavor, including storytelling. It’s true –– anyone can tell stories, and anyone can have a story to tell. And that’s the beauty of this practice, right? Authentic stories can come from anywhere, and they take shape in so many wonderful ways. We’ve seen it happen in film and in life, and especially at Purdue.
Knowing that authenticity comes from anywhere, and the traits of Boilermakers –– persistence, resilience, motivation, courage, bravery –– come from anywhere, is a great equalizer. So, when you search for Boilermaker stories, from students to faculty to staff, look high and low, far and wide. Read departmental news, attend faculty seminars, go to student research presentations, visit college networking events –– immerse yourself in storytelling opportunities. You never know where you may discover your tiny chef.
