Photo and video shoot – Release forms
Planning a photo or video shoot?
Before you hit record or snap that shot, make sure you’re familiar with Purdue’s Photo and Video Release Guidelines. These guidelines clarify when you need to obtain consent from individuals featured in your content — especially students and minors — and when releases are not typically required, such as public events or posed shots with implied consent.
For example, you generally don’t need a release if someone is smiling for the camera at a public event like Boiler Gold Rush or Homecoming. But if you’re photographing students in private or academic settings — like classrooms, labs or offices — verbal or written consent is often necessary. The guidelines also outline rights of use for content created by Purdue Brand Studio or external vendors.
Visit the guidelines page to access both the online and printable versions of Purdue’s official photo/video release form. It’s a quick step that helps ensure your content is compliant and ready for public use.
