What is ADA Compliance and Why Should You Care?
ADA compliance is short for the Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design. That means all electronic information and technology — including but not limited to your website, videos, Giphy, animations and social graphics — must be accessible to those with disabilities. Color contrast for background and foreground display of text and images is an important part of this compliance for the visually impaired. ADA compliance is a federal mandate and repercussions could include significant fines.
A chart for our brand colors has been created and provides all color combinations that are considered ADA compliant. This can be found on the Marcom website under Digital Color Palette.
Shown below, find the most common misusage we have found on Purdue channels and recommendations on how to fix this color contrast issue.
