What’s coming in social media for 2026
At Purdue Brand Studio we are always looking ahead to navigate the ever-changing social media landscape and make sure we are utilizing best practices while also trying new trends and ideas. Looking toward 2026, here are some trend predictions from Social Media Today for maximizing new social opportunities.
Here’s the breakdown/TLDR:
- Facebook: Remains the most used platform in the world. There may be nonalgorithm trials coming, more integration with AI and Horizon Worlds, and a focus on friend highlights.
- Instagram: What we may see is stronger AI enforcement/AI depictions. Reels make up 50% of the time spent on the app, so consideration of the app opening directly to reels. A potential charge for using the new Edits app and Threads establishing itself as a great alternative to X.
- Twitter (X): While declining in broad popularity, it is still a platform with millions of users. There are concerns with community notes, X money and monetization of NSFW (not-safe-for-work) content.
- LinkedIn: LinkedIn has had a big surge in users since the decline of X. What is likely to happen in the next year is AI helping map career paths, more videos in-feed and in full-screen on mobile, and LinkedIn Learning quick sessions.
