Erin Murphy
Colleagues describe Erin Murphy as a compassionate leader who is calm under pressure. She brings a wealth of valuable experience to her role as senior director of media and public relations, having previously served as communication strategist and press secretary to Indiana Gov. Eric J. Holcomb.
Erin’s work in the governor’s office put her in frequent contact with Purdue’s earned media team. And when the senior director position opened, she knew it was the natural next step in her career. Her knowledge of Purdue combined with her years of experience as communications director for the city of Westfield, Indiana, and the Indiana Department of Child Services empower her to develop and implement communication and media plans that best serve Purdue and its strategic initiatives.
Early in her career, Erin worked as a TV newsroom anchor and reporter. She says working in a setting where “the show must go on” taught her to be nimble, decisive and willing to step in wherever needed. This experience cultivated her leadership style, which focuses on teamwork — Erin would never ask a colleague to do something she’s not willing to do herself.
When she’s not working, Erin loves to travel, read, exercise and keep up with the busy schedules of her three children.
